Focal character name – Naerun the Virgadian.

Background – An alien labourer residing in the depths of an ancient crater forest: the last stronghold of old life, far above the bemisted lowlands where evolution has long moved onto uncanny giants. Their own kind are rather exotic – they communicate with scent and experience the world in far greater olfactory detail than humans, not to mention being strictly diurnal and preyed upon by herbivores. Meek and placid at face value, hard times pressure Naerun into exposing capabilities that increasingly surprise themselves and others. Unbeknownst to them, their stark experience will uncover far starker truths than any of the legendfolk: connections that defy reason and stand aloof from their personal journey.

Writing features (Go list go!):

• First person, Present tense – modern storytelling form, albeit with:
• Alien sensory focus – more smell than other elements – and slightly unconventional prose style.
• A thoroughly unusual alien setting.
• Tone oscillates between whimsical and savage.
