Daily prompt 23 – Losing the Hovel

Daily writing prompt
What would you do if you lost all your possessions?

Aw, what the hell!

Today’s prompt suggestion was so bloody morbid, I couldn’t resist to answer it myself. What would I do if I lost ALL my possessions?

If we are taking this literally, this prompt is suggesting that I am to suddenly lose my house, any vehicles, all my devices, all my furniture, all my clothes – including the ones off my back, all my food, all my money (so I can’t even buy it all back) and – so I can’t just rely on the generosity of my own family – everyone close to me has abruptly cut contact and refuses to help!

Let’s be realistic here. How do I – the luxury spoilt, hapless lout – avoid dying of exposure within a week? How do I avoid being shanked in the streets? Well, there’s the chance that the kindness of others might help reverse my plight. If that is the case, I will need to let go of all my prior hopes and dreams to work towards newfound security.Maybe if I borrow a pen and write about my absurd misfortune, I might be able to produce a memoir worth a little money to get a humble apartment, but even then the chance of success would be slim. If I don’t, no amount of spiritualism or prayer is going to save me from starvation. Religious institutions might give you shelter and clothe you, but faith alone aint gonna reverse things. A humble way to go, yes, but an undeniably horrible one too.

If you were in the same circumstances, how screwed would you be? Just consider that for yourself.

Hope this prompt doesn’t come true for you!
